Staff Associate
Columbia University’s Mortimer B. Zuckerman Mind Brain Behavior Institute (the Zuckerman Institute) brings together researchers to explore aspects of mind and brain, through the exchange of ideas and active collaboration. The Zuckerman Institute’s home will be the Jerome L. Greene Science Center on Columbia’s new Manhattanville campus. Situated in the heart of Manhattan, at full capacity the Zuckerman Institute will house over 55 laboratories employing a broad range of interdisciplinary approaches to transform our understanding of the mind and brain. In this highly collaborative environment, labs work together to gain critical insights into human health by exploring how the brain develops, performs, endures and recovers from trauma or disease.
The Staff Associate will support Postdoctoral Researchers and Graduate students with the study of molecular and cellular mechanisms of human psychiatric disorders, ensure compliance with safety, environmental and IACUC regulations, responsible for ordering and financially managing lab supplies, responsible for Molecular biology, cell culture, histology, mouse colony maintenance, immunohistochemistry, stereotactic surgery and initializing pre-programmed behavior training modules.
Responsibilities included but not limited to: Stereotactic surgery – 30% Mouse colony maintenance – 10% Behavior training modules – 20% Histology – 10% Genotyping – 10% General Managing responsibilities-20%
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, physics or related sciences and four (4) years of previous laboratory experience.
Master’s degree preferred. Molecular biology, cell culture, histology, mouse colony maintenance, immunohistochemistry, RNA sequencing, PCR, RT-PCR, genotyping, stereotactic mouse brain surgeries and initializing pre-programmed behavior training modules.
