A Professional Research Assistant position is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Juan-Pablo Idrovo in collaboration with Dr. Elizabeth J. Kovacs in the Department of Surgery at the University of Colorado Denver, Anschutz Medical Campus.

Research in our laboratories is to study inflammatory response, innate immunity, and cell death in multi-organ system in the context of tissue injury after trauma. The current project is to identify the pathways and mechanisms responsible for liver damage in advanced age after burn injury by using in vitro and in vivo approaches combined with omics technology.  

The laboratory is located on the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado. As a premier institution, CU Anschutz integrates world-class education, research, and patient care in state-of-the-art facilities.

Duties and responsibilities:

Under the supervision of a faculty member and senior PRA, the successful candidate will work primarily on murine models of tissue injury. Models will involve handling and conducting experiments on mice as well as the management of breeding colonies. Clinical work will include the handling and processing of human tissue samples. Wet lab techniques will include western blots, ELISAs, PCR/RT-PCR, cell culture, flow cytometry, genotyping, and immunofluorescence. Also, the successful candidate will conduct general laboratory maintenance involving inventorying supplies, cataloging samples and reagents, and ensuring appropriate safety and disposal requirements are met.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Physiology or related field or equivalent experience as designated by the Dean or Dean's Designee.
  • Excellent interpersonal and general communication skills; applicant must be fluent in written and spoken English.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Detail-oriented, paying close attention to and documenting experimental protocols, laboratory write-ups, graphs/figures, and PowerPoint presentations
  • General knowledge of office computer software and a basic understanding of statistical analysis and programs. Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of the above-mentioned scientific techniques and mouse handling.
