A Postdoctoral Associate position is available in an exciting new research group in the Department of Veterinary Medicine at University of Maryland- College Park and the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. The Postdoctoral Associate will be required to assist the Principal Investigator (Dr. Sean Riley) with the successful execution of the research program in the laboratory. Specific responsibilities include design, performance, analysis, and presentation of experiments focusing on Rickettsia interaction with mammalian hosts, the genetic basis of spotted fever infections, and/or candidate therapeutics. Additional lab responsibilities include presentation of scientific data, preparation of manuscripts, and general assistance with maintenance of laboratory equipment, inventories, and animals.
Ph.D. degree. The successful candidate will have a strong background of research in microbiology, immunology, veterinary medicine, and/or molecular biology.
A highly motivated and creative scientist that is interested in using animal and arthropod models of infection to increase our collective understanding the molecular and genetic requirements that contribute to spotted fever group Rickettsia diseases. Ideal candidates will have demonstrated experience with small animal models of infection, working in an elevated biosafety setting, and/or genetic manipulation of bacteria.
