Position Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator, or designee, the Research Associate I performs a variety of routine and increasingly complex research experiments.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Review and analyze data for assurance of assay quality and consistency;
  • Cell culture and functional test of cells from mouse tissue (spleenocytes, bone marrow);
  • Perform genotyping in mouse model;
  • Experience working with human blood and blood products using sterile technique, cell culture or other related experience;
  • Provide support in document review, data entry, and data analysis;
  • Participate in laboratory lab meeting showing and discussing data;
  • Assist with general maintenance of the laboratory, equipment, and inventory;
  • Utilizing laboratory equipment and established protocols, performs a variety of research experiments. Records and validates results for accuracy and completeness.
  • May modify protocols;
  • Write standard operating procedures and reports;
  • Maintains records of work performed including results and methodology; utilizing records may calculate, graph and compile data;
  • Develops techniques and expertise in one or more areas relevant to laboratory research project;
  • Ensures that all laboratory activities are carried out in compliance with safety procedures and guidelines in handling, storage and disposal of materials;
  • Follows established City of Hope and department policies, procedures, objectives, performance improvement, attendance, safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines, including adherence to the workplace Code of Conduct and Compliance Plan. Practices a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:
  • Must have Bachelor's degree;
  • Must have 0-2 years of research/laboratory experience;
  • Excellent computer skills;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

Preferred education, experience and skills:
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques (real time PCR, Rna isolation, western blot);
  • Knowledge of basic flow cytometry applications, surface staining;
  • Familiarity with hematopoietic cell populations.
