The laboratory of Dr. Harris Goldstein, Professor of Microbiology & Immunology and Pediatrics and Charles Michaels Chair of Autoimmune Diseases from Albert Einstein College of Medicine is seeking Postdoctoral Research Scientists (up to three positions available) funded by two newly awarded NIH grants. We are seeking highly motivated, enthusiastic and passionate candidates who are team players with a background in cellular immunology, molecular biology and/or neuroscience.

Research: Our lab is developing and evaluating novel immunostimulatory biologics which are constructed utilizing sophisticated protein design and engineering principles capable of driving in vivo antigen-specific stimulation of T cells responses or expansion of CAR-T cells to dissect out the impact of different costimulatory pathways and drive potent anti-viral responses aimed at curing HIV infection and infection by other viruses. We are evaluating HIV cure approaches using a novel humanized mouse model populated with patient-derived latently infected cells we recently described. We are also combining novel HIV transgenic mouse models we have developed with next-gen sequencing, single cell and display library methods to investigate the in vivo mechanisms by which opioids alone and in combination with HIV infection contribute to compromising the BBB and inducing neuroinflammation and cognitive decline.

Environment: The Goldstein lab is a highly interactive and stimulating academic environment for scientists in training, which collaborates with investigators at multiple leading academic research institutions and biotech companies. Lab members participate and benefit from programs within the Department of Microbiology & Immunology, Einstein-Rockefeller Center for AIDS Research (which Dr. Goldstein directs) and throughout the school including weekly invited seminars by leading investigators, journal clubs, work-in-progress seminars, workshops as well as social and professional events organized by the Einstein Postdoc office.

Requirements: The ideal candidate should have a PhD in immunology or a related field, expertise in in vitro and ex vivo mammalian cell culture and in vivo cellular immunologic techniques including flow cytometry, mouse models and surgical/transplantation techniques, and common molecular biology techniques. For some projects, proficiency in immunohistological evaluation of mouse brains, bioinformatic analysis of transcriptomes and HIV biology are highly desired.

Salary: Salary is commensurate with recommended NIH postdoctoral salary guidelines funded by NIH research grants.

Application Process: Interested individuals should send cover letter, CV, and contact information for three references to dr.harris.goldstein@gmail.com. Applications will not be considered if they do not directly address the applicant's reason for interest and suitability for this particular position and provide direct contact information for a current supervisor. Visa sponsorship might be considered for a foreign PhD scientist with exceptional training and abilities that include well-developed English verbal and writing skills.

The Albert Einstein College of Medicine is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, protected veteran or disabled status, or genetic information.
