Are you an exceptional candidate who can provide leadership to the NIH Center that is the focal point for the peer review of grant applications and fellowships? This position offers a unique opportunity to serve as second-in-command of the Center for Scientific Review (CSR) with responsibility for the execution and management of daily operations in support of the Center’s strategic vision and mission. The Deputy Director, CSR, serves as a principal advisor to the Director, CSR, and participates in discussions for the development of major policy decisions affecting the research grant and review programs; provides advice and consultation to NIH components, advisory councils, and grantee institutions; augments searches for the most qualified and representative individuals to serve as members of initial review groups; and ensures effective administrative procedures are established so that program operations and obligations of government funds and other resources are rendered consistent with statutory and regulatory requirements and within limitations imposed by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and Executive Branch policies.
We are looking for applicants with a commitment to scientific excellence and the energy, enthusiasm and innovative thinking necessary to lead within a dynamic and diverse organization. Applicants must possess an M.D. and/or Ph.D., or equivalent doctoral-level degree, and have senior-level research experience and knowledge of research programs in one or more health science areas. Applicants should be known and respected within their profession, both nationally and internationally, as individuals of outstanding scientific competence. They also need to have demonstrated experience in: 1) planning, implementing and analyzing program objectives and priorities; 2) managing financial and human resources; 3) leading a research program involving extensive internal and external collaboration; and 4) scientific grant funding and peer review.
The successful candidate for this position will be appointed at a salary commensurate with experience and accomplishments, and a full Federal benefits package will be provided.
