Postdoctoral and Research Technician Positions in Systems and Synthetic Biology

Postdoctoral and Research Technician positions are available in the Noyes lab (www.noyeslab.com) of the Institute for Systems Genetics at the NYU School of Medicine. Both of these positions will focus on a newly funded project to investigate the protein-protein interactions within the microbes of the human microbiome and how these interactions allow their hosts to respond to their environment. There are 3 primary objectives to the project: to characterize these interactions and how they differ from their eukaryotic counterparts, to understand how these interactions allow the microbe to respond to external stimuli, and to engineer these proteins for novel therapeutic applications such as targeted protein digestion and artificial signaling pathways.

In general, we are looking to build a team of exciting young scientists to scale up our understanding of protein interacts and how we can apply this information to develop therapies that address genetic disease. At the heart of what we do is understanding the nuts and bolts of the molecular interactions between proteins and their targets. Our ultimate goal is to characterize these interactions, the influence of genetic variation on these interactions, and their connections to phenotype; but we also want to use this information to develop molecular, therapeutic tools that manipulate these interactions and the genomes that harbor them. We have a small but talented group and have been awarded funding from the NIH to support these and other projects. I am excited to see what kind of fun team we can build to apply the concerted union of systems and synthetic biology that will revolutionize molecular medicine.

Exceptional candidates will have experience working with bacteria and human tissue cultures, cloning, genome editing, hybrid assays, and protein/nucleic acid library design. Familiarity with common modes of protein-DNA, protein-RNA or protein-protein interactions, as well as computational analysis of such interactions, is highly desirable.

The postdoctoral position requires completion of a PhD in molecular, cellular, or computation biology (or related field) by start date. Candidates with a strong publication record demonstrating independence in research focus will be preferred. The research technician position requires completion of a BA/BS majoring in a relevant natural science - preferably biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, etc - by start date. For both positions the ability to communicate clearly in writing, as well as verbally with a diverse set of collaborators, is a must. Interested applicants should submit a cover letter, CV, and a one page “Research Statement” describing research interests and experience and how these align with the foci of our laboratory.  Application materials should be sent to marcus.noyes@nyumc.org. Salary will be commensurate with accomplishment, fit, and experience.
