POSITION:  The Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences within the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities campus invites applications for a full-time, 9- month, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in Pharmacology/Toxicology in Food Animal Production. This position is part of a university-wide strategic emphasis on Global Systems Science and investment into Agricultural Research, Education, Extension and Technology Transfer (AGREETT program). The successful candidate will bring cutting-edge knowledge and expertise in pharmacology and/or toxicology and develop a research program to identify, monitor and control veterinary drugs, toxicants, and other xenobiotic contaminants in food animals using cutting-edge detection methods. They will interact closely with the Minnesota Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory as well as researchers in the CVM, the College of Food, Agriculture, and Natural Resource Sciences, and the Medical School, and stakeholders in Minnesota's food animal industries. This scholar will educate students, scientists, food producers, and farmers regarding best practices for proper use of drugs and safe feedstuffs or feed additives, including probiotics and nutraceuticals in food-producing animals. The interactive environment of the Department includes campus ties to other basic science and clinical departments, centers, and partnerships with food animal commodities. The CVM and University offer state-of-the-art core research facilities (including new BSL2/3 facilities) and world-class research programs in pharmacology, antimicrobial drug resistance, and food safety.

Minimum qualifications:  A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in pharmacology or toxicology or a related field and a record of publication in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals. The candidate must be eligible to apply for research funds from the United States Department of Agriculture, the National Institutes of Health, and other U.S. federal funding agencies to support research of high national and international distinction.

Desired qualifications: A D.V.M. degree with research experience in pharmacology, toxicology or another relevant field.  Documented abilities to (1) develop and sustain a research program of excellence with extramural funding support and (2) create or work effectively within collaborative research teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate must establish an independent, extramurally-funded research program that includes teaching of undergraduate, graduate, or professional (D.V.M.) courses, and engage in public outreach. Anticipated effort will be research and teaching (70%) and Extension (30%).

SALARY AND START-UP PACKAGE: Highly competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. The candidate will be offered newly-renovated laboratory space in support of interdisciplinary science.
