Associate Research Scientist/Research Scientist/Senior Research Scientist
Columbia University’s Department of Neurological Surgery invites applications for an entry-level position as an Associate Research Scientist to perform electrophysiological multielectrode array intracranial recordings in surgical epilepsy and deep brain stimulation patients. The position requires implementation of high-level data analyses, including event-related and spectral analysis of field potentials and spike sorting, plus temporal pattern analysis of single-unit data. It also requires the design and implementation of visual and visual auditory studies using free-viewing paradigms. Finally, the position requires a familiarity with all the relevant literature on visual active sensing in human and nonhuman primates (NHPs), the ability to design and implement human studies that parallel ongoing NHP studies in partner institutions, and the ability to analyze both types of data. Prerequisites include:
- Expertise in use of eye tracking technology and integration of eye tracking signals with intracranial electrophysiology
- Strong background in widely used laboratory software (e.g., Matlab) and hardware tools
- Strong background in multivariate statistics, including nonparametric approaches
- Prior experience in working with both clinical neurology and neurosurgery staff in multiple institutions
Ph.D. and/or M.D. and a strong research background in neuroscience required.
