Senior Research Engineer

The Sean N Parker Center for Allergy and Asthma Research at Stanford University is a world-renowned, fast-growing team in the Stanford School of Medicine. Our vision is to find the causes and cures of allergy and asthma through innovative science and compassionate care.  

Under the direction of the Sean N Parker Center Director, the Sr. Quantitative Research Scientist will be responsible for the analytical group at the Center, the design, oversight and conduct of statistical and bioinformatic analyses in a growing program of implementation, dissemination and evaluation of allergy and asthma research and quality improvement projects. Working in a capacity which requires a Ph.D. in computational biology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, or related field, the Sr. Quantitative Research Scientist is involved directly in the execution and design of a program of research activities in support of the Director. His or her primary purpose is to assist the Director in attaining the goals of the program of research by overseeing and supporting all quantitative analytic activities. 

Duties include:

  • Overseeing personnel in the analytical group at the Center,
  • Planning statistical and bioinformatic analyses
  • Conducting statistical and bioinformatics analyses
  • Overseeing the management of databases
  • Writing grants and manuscripts
  • Working directly with the Director of the Center to achieve the overall goals of research

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • Ph.D. in computational biology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, or related field
  • Comprehensive understanding of scientific principles of above fields
  • Five years of experience in the field or related field or equivalent
  • Strong analytical skills, excellent judgment, and demonstrated excellence, innovation and productivity in research
  • Excellent organizational and management skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately and record thoroughly and within timelines
  • Experience supervising analytic staff including training, mentoring and coaching
  • Ability to independently oversee and direct the data analysis of multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience developing and writing grant proposals and manuscripts
  • Successful publication record

DESIRED:

  • Experience in implementation science
  • Project management skills
  • Database storage management skills

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • PhD-level understanding of scientific principles
