The Technische Universität Kaiserslautern (TUK) is a research university with a focus on engineering and natural sciences and an international profile. In the field of basic research, it is particularly active in seven collaborative research centres (CRCs) and transregio-CRCs. W2 Professor with W3 Tenure

for ‘Molecular Botany’ (m/f/d)

at the TUK in the Department of ‘Biology’ is to be filled as soon as possible.

In research, the professorship should represent a current field in Botany and act as a link between the existing research programmes in molecular plant sciences and ecology or microbiology. Applicants with a research focus on climatic adaptations, abiotic stress reactions, or membrane biology of plants are particularly encouraged to apply. We are looking for a candidate who can complement the existing methodological expertise on campus. The professorship is embedded in a faculty with a strong research track record and should complement existing focal areas, in particular the Transregio-SFB 175 The Green Hub - Central Coordinator of Acclimation in Plants and the Research Initiative BioComp, which focuses on dynamic membrane processes in biological systems. Teaching duties include covering basic Botany in the Bachelor’s course Biologie. In the Master's course, the applicant is expected to participate in at least one of the three specialisations Microbial and Plant Biotechnology, Molecular Cell Biology, or Ecology.

We are looking for an individual with internationally recognised research achievements in the above-mentioned current fields of molecular plant sciences, a successful record of continuous third-party funding, excellent didactic skills, and pertinent teaching experience. In order to fulfil these tasks in research and teaching, the professorship will receive competitive resources for equipment and personnel as well as sufficient premises.

This tenure track professorship is funded by the WISNA programme. The programme’s target group are scientists at an early stage of their careers. The filling of the professorship requires eligibility according to WISNA.

The professorship shall initially be occupied as a W2 position in civil service for a period of six years. A mid-term evaluation shall be conducted in the third year; a tenure evaluation shall be conducted prior to completion of the period. Following the successful completion of this and, insofar as the general staff regulations are met, the appointment shall take place for the civil service post for life in the salary grade W3. The procedures are set forth in the TUK Statutes on Quality Assurance for Appointments.

The State of Rhineland-Palatinate and the TUK represent a support concept in which a high attendance of the professors at the university is expected.

Besides the general staff regulations, the appointment requirements stipulated in § 49 of the University Act of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate apply.
