Director of the Division of Extramural Research
Are you a top-level Scientific Researcher or Scientific Administrator seeking a career at one of the preeminent biomedical research institutes in the nation and world? The National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS), a major component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), is seeking exceptional candidates for the position of Director, Division of Extramural Research (DER). The mission of the NIAMS is to support research into the causes, treatment, and prevention of arthritis and musculoskeletal and skin diseases; the training of basic and clinical scientists to carry out this research; and the dissemination of information on research progress in these diseases. The DER Director position offers an exciting opportunity for scientific and managerial leadership in developing and implementing extramural research programs in support of the NIAMS mission.
Applicants must possess an M.D., a Ph.D., or an equivalent degree in a biomedical or related field. Applicants must have excellent knowledge of the research, advanced principles, theories and practices applicable to arthritis, musculoskeletal and skin diseases. It is critical that the candidate is well versed in research methods, policies and practices related to grants administration. Applicants must be able to serve as a spokesperson for NIAMS research to science and health professionals and the general public. He/she must have proven experience in directing and managing a comprehensive scientific extramural research program with the requisite administrative and interpersonal skills to meet the demands of program direction. Salary is commensurate with experience and accomplishments.
