Assistant Professor of Biochemistry & Molecular Genetics

The Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Genetics and the Cancer Center of the School of Medicine at the University of Virginia (www.virginia.edu/bmg) seeks candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor who addresses contemporary problems in cancer therapy, particularly immunotherapy.

Assistant professors are untenured faculty who are on the tenure track. The probationary period or tenure clock normally lasts five or six years for assistant professors recently graduated from doctorate programs, though recently hired professors with prior teaching or professional experience may have years in other positions credited as part of their probationary period. During probation, most assistant professors undergo a third-year or pre-tenure review, during which the university evaluates whether they have demonstrated adequate progress toward tenure to be awarded a second three-year pre-tenure contract or their contract will not be renewed.

The position will remain open to applications until filled.

For additional information please contact Helen Norfleet-Shiflett, department of Biochemistry & Molecular Genetics, via telephone (434) 924-1667 or email hn6u@virginia.edu.

To apply, visit http://https://uva.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/UVAJobs and search for R0004340 Assistant Professor of Biochemistry. Complete a candidate profile online, attach a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and statement of research interest (two pages or less including references).

Three letters of recommendation should be submitted electronically, directly to hn6u@virginia.edu with the applicant's name in the subject heading

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. and/or M.D. in the life sciences or in computational biology and must have demonstrated the capacity to maintain a high-quality independent research program and to attract extramural research funding. Support will include a start-up package, laboratory space, and an exceptionally interactive research environment. Clinically qualified applicants will be considered for a joint appointment in the appropriate clinical department.

The University of Virginia, including the UVA Health System and the University Physician’s Group are fundamentally committed to the diversity of our faculty and staff.  We believe diversity is excellence expressing itself through every person's perspectives and lived experiences.  We are equal opportunity and affirmative action employers. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, color, disability, gender identity, marital status, national or ethnic origin, political affiliation, race, religion, sex (including pregnancy), sexual orientation, veteran status, and family medical or genetic information.
