The University of Cologne, Faculty of Medicine, posts the position of a

Professorship (W2) for Molecular and Cellular Physiology
(tenure track, temporary, with option for consolidation in case of positive evaluation)

as per the requirements outlined in § 36 of the Universities act of North Rhine-Westphalia (HG NRW). The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date.

The professorship is part of the newly established Center for Biomedicine at the University of Cologne, which combines preclinical institutes in a joint structure to promote excellence and interdisciplinarity in research and teaching. The successful candidate actively participates in physiology teaching for medical students and related teaching programs of the Medical Faculty. The primary objective of the new appointment is the development of an internationally competitive research programme that is strongly complementing the focus research areas of the Medical Faculty. Close interactions with Collaborative Research Centers and Research Units of the DFG on campus, the local Max Planck Institutes for Biology of Ageing and Metabolism Research, the Cologne Excellence Cluster CECAD, and centers such as the Cologne Center for Genomics (CCG), the Center for Integrated Oncology (CIO) and the Center of Molecular Medicine Cologne (CMMC) are expected.

The successful candidate is expected to have an outstanding record of academic achievements in general, cellular or systemic physiology. Scientific excellence and a particular commitment to teaching students in the subject of Physiology and the motivation to actively contribute to the development of the model university course of the Faculty of Medicine are presumed.

Social skills, the capacity to work in multidisciplinary teams, to apply for third-party research funds and to initiate joint research projects are prerequisites. Further requirements for application include a postdoctoral lecture qualification (Habilitation or equivalent) and academic teaching experience.
