Position Summary

Under limited supervision, the Research Laboratory Assistant is responsible for the cleaning of laboratory equipment such as glassware, sinks and tables. The Research Laboratory Assistant is also responsible for preparing solutions, labeling tubes/specimen containers and maintaining laboratory supplies.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Collects, washes, cleans and sterilizes glassware, equipment and supplies using the proper sterilization techniques.
  • Examines glassware for breakage and chips; discards damaged pieces.
  • Receives, distributes and maintains supply inventories in laboratories, as needed.
  • Prepares simple stains, solutions, culture media, and may process tissue samples following established protocols andprocedures.
  • Using appropriate equipment collects and delivers specimens for analysis.
  • Ensures proper labeling and pertinent information in obtained on request forms.
  • Maintains required records, reports and statistics as directed.
  • Assists in the care and maintenance of laboratory work area and furnishings/equipment.

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum one (1) year of related experience.

Preferred education experience and skills:
  • Two (2) years experience, preferred.
