Horticulture Instructor

The Department of Plant Science at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking a dynamic individual for a 48 week non-tenure track position with 100% teaching responsibilities. The candidate is expected to teach in the baccalaureate and online Plant Science programs at the University Park campus and World Campus. Emphasis will be on teaching lower level courses that will include Introduction to Horticulture, Plants in the Human Context, and other courses as needed. Other duties such as committee participation, advising, recruiting, and assessing learning outcomes may be expected. Interaction with the horticulture/plant science industries to bolster curriculum and student placement would also be beneficial. The successful candidate will engage collaboratively with other faculty at Penn State and independent organizations representing the horticulture/plant sciences industries. Professional development opportunities will be available and encouraged. The ability to engage with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students at Departmental, College, and University levels is an important aspect of this academic appointment. Qualifications: The successful individual must possess strong writing and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to deal with multiple tasks in a fast-paced, dynamic, team-based work environment. Previous teaching experience in horticulture or plant science related field and fit to the Department's teaching needs are critical. Typical requirements include a minimum of an earned Master's degree in Plant Science or some other plant related field in agriculture and some successful classroom teaching experience in a college environment.
