Principal Software Engineer, Small Molecule Drug Discovery


Description
The Computational Chemistry and Cheminformatics group seeks an experienced, self-driven principal software engineer to help identify, design, test and deliver software tools that assist in discovering ground breaking therapeutics.

The successful candidate will help shape and implement a long term informatics strategy and apply knowledge of modern software technologies to complex informatics and scientific problems in a dynamic research environment. Software projects will involve analyzing the needs of small molecule R&D groups and translating the requirements into robust and scalable software solutions.

You will have access to state of the art hardware, software, and infrastructure in a fast-paced and creative environment.  Based at our beautiful South San Francisco campus, you will join our team of software engineers, computational chemists, and cheminformaticians who are committed to discovering new medicines to address unmet medical needs. This is a tremendous opportunity to do meaningful work in an exciting, dynamic environment.


Who You Are

  • You have a Ph.D. or equivalent in Computer Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biophysics, or related discipline with a minimum of an undergraduate level course in organic chemistry.
  • You have at least 15 years of experience in scientific programming and providing software solutions in a research environment.
  • You have demonstrated leadership in the conception, architecture, design, implementation, and adoption of significant, novel scientific or workflow applications.
  • You have a record of identifying, adopting and integrating new technologies that contribute to corporate goals.
  • You have demonstrated experience with Java (or other modern programming language) and SQL. Additional experience with Python and Javascript preferred.
  • You have demonstrated experience in chemical informatics, algorithms and software.
  • You have designed and maintained data models in relational databases.
  • You have outstanding interpersonal and technical communication skills.
  • Knowledge of data science, machine learning, and deep learning approaches is strongly desired.
