We’re spearheading ground-breaking new programs that will revolutionise the treatment of Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, mental health, MND and spinal injuries, ultimately aimed at delivering impact to millions of people.

Led by Professor Bryce Vissel, the Centre is delivering results previously never thought possible, in line with its vision is to create a sustainable, world-leading hub of excellence.

About the role

As our Senior Research Fellow you will be focused primarily on Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) and movement disorder research, specifically on research in recovery from paralysis following SCI and research in other aspects of movement disorders using neuromodulation, exercise rehabilitation and other approaches.

The University of Technology has invested into state of the art facilities in the studies of neuromodulation and this role will play a large part in the establishment of our new facility.

The role will further be involved in the conception, design and performance of novel projects and experiments, in collaboration with the Centre Director and Professor of Spinal Cord Injury Research.

You will work to boost the profile of the Centre through publications, invited talks, international and domestic collaborations and utilise a cross-disciplinary approach to achieve research goals, leading and eventually growing a research group in this endeavour.

About you

You have substantial knowledge and experience with neuromodulation studies in the recovery of motor and other physiological functions following Spinal Cord Injury and related neurological conditions in humans.

To be successful in securing the role, you will also have:

  • Strong commitment to excellence in quality and standard of research, leadership and management responsibilities
  • You are a solid communicator with excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills.
  • Experience as successful named investigator in research proposal submissions to external funding bodies; first author publications; and supervisory experience consistent with these requirements
  • Capacity to drive translation of research from pre-clinical to clinical applications in SCI
  • Significant technical knowledge and experience in the human studies of neurostimulation/neuromodulation essential
  • Strong knowledge of data analysis and statistics.

Experience in supervision and mentoring of research students and junior research staff is highly desirable.
