JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
We seek to hire a postdoctoral researcher to join our interdisciplinary research team. The ideal candidate will primarily contribute to the development of novel microbial and cell-free biosensing systems for chemical contaminants in soil. The candidate's research will contribute to broader improvements the development of biosensing platforms for a variety of sensing applications including environmental contamination, food safety, and water safety. The position will provide ample opportunity for exploration into cross- disciplinary research initiatives, such as novel biomaterial development, clean energy systems, and water contaminant sensing and remediation systems.
Research funding for the postdoctoral position is secured for 18 months, with a likely extension for a total of 3-4 years. Due to funding restrictions, applicants must be U.S. citizens.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsibilities:

An interest in interdisciplinary research, synthetic biology, genetic engineering, and the exploration and development of microbial and cell-free biosensing systems are essential. In addition to original research resulting in quality publications on the above topics, the postdoctoral scholar will also assist in managing the project, directing the research of undergraduate and graduate students, coordinating research across the team, and preparing project deliverables for the sponsor.

Requirements:

 

 

 

 

  • PhD in biological science or a closely related field
  • Broad experience in standard molecular biology techniques (please describe in cover letter)
  • Experience with novel assay development (please describe in cover letter)
  • Creativity and mental flexibility to ideate new methods of biological measurement and troubleshoot experimental systems
  • Interest in, and general familiarity with, synthetic biology
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and achieve project goals
  • Interest in training and mentoring undergraduate students
