Research Scientist, Biology, Center for Protein Degradation

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) and Deerfield Management have entered a multi-year collaboration to create the Center for Protein Degradation (CPD) at DFCI led by Drs. Eric Fischer and Nathanael Gray. The goals of the Center for Protein Degradation are to create a next-generation protein degrader platform and interrogate and advance a large portfolio of protein degrader targets. This is an exceptional opportunity to join a newly founded research center that is pushing the boundaries of targeted protein degradation research and accelerating the translation of basic science into clinical solutions. The Center for Protein Degradation (CPD) seeks a highly motivated individual to join the biology team as a SCIENTIST who will work on various projects with a planned focus in studying the immunomodulatory effects of molecular glues and degraders. Qualified candidates will lead internal and external research efforts to investigate the mechanism of action of glue and degraders molecules in both tumor and immune cells. The individual will collaborate with our various research groups to identify biomarkers with an emphasis on the development and implementation of immunological assays to support pre-clinical/clinical studies. The candidate will prepare high quality technical reports and summaries that will be used to identify translational opportunities. The individual will work closely with internal research teams, external collaborators, and contract research organizations (CROs) to design and develop in vivostrategies to establish proof-of-concept efficacy, identify clinically actionable pharmacodynamics measures of efficacy, and assess potential for adverse events. This candidate will provide insights to research directions, while also making hands-on contributions to the research. The individual will regularly present work progress to the rest of the group.
- Independently plan, manage, and perform experiments and biology projects. Develop project proposals, timelines and resource needs. Monitor milestones and ensure deliverables are completed on time.
- Develop, implement, and deliver on mechanistic studies for glue and degrader molecules
- Explore novel indications and new drug combinations both in cellular and in vivo settings
- Develop, perform, and analyze assays to assess immune endpoints (i.e. cytokine secretion, cell activation, proliferation, and cytotoxicity) and evaluate mechanisms of anti-tumor immunity
- Work closely with pertinent working groups (chemistry and mouse model teams) to guide compound optimization and inform choice of appropriate in vivo pharmacodynamics and efficacy models, respectively
- Collect and analyze experimental data and identify next steps based on outcomes
- Train research technicians and other scientific staff in methods/techniques and supervise on specific projects
- Prepare presentations and present project status and outcomes at internal and external meetings
- Interact and liaise with internal experts, external experts, academic groups, and CROs to establish collaborations and projects
- Prepare papers and publications, if necessary
- Maintain clear and accurate records of experimental work (e.g., experimental methods, results/findings)
- PhD degree in molecular/cellular biology, biochemistry, immunology or related disciplines with at least 2 years of relevant postdoctoral experience, preferably in an industrial setting
- Experience in cellular and in vivo tumor models Expertise in immunological assays, including FACS analysis and ELISAs
- Skilled in immune cell purification and phenotyping, and in performing immune endpoint analysis
- Demonstrated leadership in research projects related to drug development or translational applications
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Scientific drive, demonstrated by a proven track record of publications in peer reviewed journals
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative and team environment
- Proficiency in all common Microsoft Office and GraphPad Prism software
- Excellent organizational and prioritization skills. Strong attention to detail
- Strong background in both immunology and oncology is highly preferred
- Experience in running multi-faceted projects is preferred
- Experience managing more junior staff is desirable
