Postdoctoral Position in Neurobiology - Lorenzo Lab

A postdoctoral position in the laboratory of Dr. Damaris Lorenzo in the Department of Cell Biology and Physiology at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill (www.lorenzolab.org) is available immediately to study the role of cytoskeleton-associated proteins in brain development and connectivity, and associated mechanisms leading to neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders.

The candidate must have a solid background in biochemistry and cell/molecular biology, and a strong interest in research, as well as excellent analytical, and oral and written communication skills. The applicant must possess good problem solving and organizational skills, and should demonstrate the ability to independently design and conduct experiments, complete research projects, and work effectively in a team. The position requires experience in genome editing, histological and microscopic analysis, live imaging, and establishment of primary neuronal cultures. The candidate should have expertise in studying brain development in mouse lines, as well as experience with transcriptomics analyses. Prior experience with mouse models of neurological disorders, brain electroporation, stereotaxic surgery, ex vivo brain slice electrophysiology, and mouse or human stem cell culture is especially desirable. Candidates must be enthusiastic, self-driven, efficient and should interact well with others.

PhD, or PhD/MD candidates with less than two years of prior post-doctoral experience are preferred. Motivated candidates with relevant research in neurobiology and a good publication track record are welcome to send CV and contact information of three references to damaris_lorenzo@med.unc.edu.
