The Division Administrator - Clinical Research Division will oversee administrative services and manage special projects for the Clinical Research Division (CRD) and its research programs. The CRD is the largest division of Fred Hutch with 95 primary faculty, including laboratory-based and clinical/translational investigators, and staff of 635. Areas of broad responsibility will include directing CRD administration and operations, budget development and management, personnel management and human resource oversight, divisional shared resources, pre- and post-awards grants management, overall supervision of administrative personnel at the division and programmatic level, facilitating staffing support to the Division faculty, representation of the Division to the Center and community, and ensuring internal communications. This person will also work with the CRD Senior Vice President and Executive Committee in strategic planning and manage special projects within CRD, both internal and external, and including international operations as well as other projects of similar nature that may develop in the future.
The Division Administrator - Clinical Research Division will report directly to the Senior Vice President of the Clinical Research Division.

- Manage the general and non-scientific administration of the CRD and its research programs. Ensure appropriate training, mentoring and supervision of the administrative staff.
- Serve as the liaison between research scientists and administration to support the Division and Center.
- Oversee the development of strategic, operational and business plans associated with the Division.
- Represent the Division on Center-wide processes and administrative committees, such as with Senior staff, Division Administrators, and administrative partnership meetings.
- Provide administrative support for the CRD Executive Committee and other CRD committee meetings.
- Lead and participate in division-wide planning, long-range financial planning, major equipment acquisitions, and new initiatives in conjunction with administration and colleagues in other scientific divisions.
- Represent and advocate for Division interests via administrative partnership meetings and administrative committees, delegating as necessary.
- Ensure current resource needs (IT, space, staff, etc.) are met and future projects needs are anticipated.
- Perform specific duties and responsibilities on behalf of the Division Senior Vice President as requested.
- Oversee the preparation, management, and monitoring of the Division's annual budget.
- Oversee the pre- and post-award management of grants and contracts.
- Oversee the negotiation and management of subcontracts/sub-agreements associated with the above functions.
- Support the development of effective and compliant scientific collaborations associated with assigned projects, particularly those involving outside entities and the consortium.
- Act as a program spokesperson in support of CRD efforts to educate other organizations including governmental entities regarding division/program operations.
- Provide HR oversight of CRD staff.
- Provide advice and support to faculty, staff, and other Center administrative and leadership groups as requested.
- Oversee the Division's human resource and personnel functions including annual staff and faculty merit review processes, employment requisitions and personnel actions, classification review, disciplinary actions, and staff training and development planning.
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience is required.
- A minimum of five years of progressively responsible administrative management experience, including grant and contract budgeting, supervision, and planning in a health care, research, biotech or governmental agency environment is required.
- Experience managing extramurally funded environments, especially NIH grant systems and industry-funded studies.
- Knowledge and high-level experience in research administration, strategic planning and business practices are necessary.
- The ability to manage a diverse team, think creatively and globally, project future needs, and be attuned to the day-to-day division operations is critical to success in this position.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential to this position.
- The successful candidate will promote scientific excellence and be responsive to the needs of the Division and Center mission.
- An advanced degree in a scientific field or administration (PhD, MBA, MPA or similar) is preferred.
