I. About the Forum

“High achievements are obtained by talent. Great causes are advanced by talent.” South-Central University for Nationalities International Young Scholars South Lake Forum aims at providing a platform for young talent all over the globe to conduct academic exchanges and exhibit academic achievements. Through reports and presentations, academic discussions, and in-person negotiations, SCUN conducts this forum to promote interdisciplinary research and cooperation between visitors and host faculty in tangible ways that build trust, hoping that more talent will join the university and help with its cause of constructing an “internationally famous top university in China with national characteristics.”

III. Target Scholars

Excellent PhDs from renowned overseas universities with great potential for growth and capability for independent academic research. Applicants should have published academic papers in major internationally-recognized journal as the first author or the correspondent author, or had important achievements in related academic fields.

VI. Travel, board, and lodging.

Invited scholars should book travel tickets for yourself, and city transportation costs will be provided by SCUN. (Air tickets and rail fares will be reimbursed at actual cost. Only economy class and second-tier seating apply). SCUN offers full board and lodging during the forum.

Profile of SCUN

South-Central University for Nationalities, first established in 1951, is a key comprehensive university under the direct administration of national ministries. Situated on the banks of South Lake in Wuhan, Hubei province, the home city of Yellow Crane Tower, SCUN is now a “National First-Class Construction University of Hubei” co-built by State Ethnic Affairs Commission, Ministry of Education, and Hubei government. With 3 disciplines: Ethnology, Chemistry, and Pharmacy, having entered the list of “National First-Class Construction Disciplines” of Hubei Province, its Ethnology evaluated as the 3rd in China in the fourth round of China University Subject Rankings, and Chemistry ranked in the top 1% in the world according to ESI ranking, SCUN’s academic influence is growing every day.

Motivated by the school motto of “Be a naturally easy-going person with serious belief and knowledge”, students from all the nationalities learn and make progress together here. Now SCUN accommodates more than 27,000 students, including students studying for full-time doctorate programs, postgraduate programs, undergraduate programs, preparatory programs, etc., of 56 nationalities from across the country, 60% of who are from ethnic minorities. SCUN has now recruited 2,800 staff members, 1400 of them are fulltime teachers. More than 50% of the faculty group have senior titles or doctorate degrees, and more than 40% of them have experience working or studying overseas. 46 teachers have been awarded the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars or entered the list of national or provincial talent programs such as “973 Project”, and 26 teachers have won the titles of “Chutian Scholars” and “Hundred Talent Plan” of Hubei Province.
