Chief for the Division of Radiation and Cancer Biology, Dept. of Radiation Oncology

The Department of Radiation Oncology at Stanford University is recruiting a Chief for the Division of Radiation and Cancer Biology and Vice Chair for Research of the Department to lead its research and educational activities. We are seeking a candidate who combines proven leadership skills with an outstanding record of academic accomplishment, a dedication to excellence in the research and educational missions, strong mentorship skills, and the creative vision to continue to develop a premier Division of Radiation and Cancer Biology and leading departmental research program. As such, the successful candidate will be a recognized leader and will be responsible for the supervision and development of research and educational activities for the Division, Department, and other relevant areas of the Stanford School of Medicine as well as mentoring junior faculty members to be successful in their areas of research.

 The faculty position is at the Associate Professor or Professor level in the University Tenure Line. Accordingly, candidates should have a PhD or an MD-PhD and have a position of Associate Professor or full Professor presently. The successful candidate should be an accomplished investigator with a national/international reputation in the field of cancer biology with an interest in radiation oncology research. The Chief will be expected to lead the research and educational activities of the Division, recruit and mentor additional faculty to support both laboratory and translational research and expand the enterprise. The activities of the Department are diverse and the Department benefits from an outstanding scientific environment at Stanford, including active collaborations with basic science departments. The Department has a current Program Project Grant, a T32 Postdoctoral Training Grant to support Postdoctoral Fellows, and a Radiation Biology research program with the Stanford Cancer Institute, a National Cancer Institute Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.

 The predominant criterion for appointment in the University Tenure Line is a major commitment to research and teaching. For the Associate Professor rank, the scholarship must reveal that the candidate is not only among the best within his or her cohort in a broadly defined field, but is also likely to become one of the very best in that field.  At the rank of Professor, the scholarship must reveal that the candidate is one of the very best in the broadly defined field. Accordingly, faculty rank will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. The successful applicant will spend a portion of time in performing laboratory research and teaching graduate students, research-oriented medical students, and radiation oncology postdoctoral scholars and fellows.
