Multiple postdoctoral positions investigating the cell biology underlying muscle degeneration are available in the labs of Dr. James McNew and Michael Stern at Rice University.

We currently use Drosophila to investigate the mechanisms by which disrupted synaptic transmission at the neuromuscular junction leads to muscle degeneration.  The project has a specific emphasis on understanding causal relationships among activities of signaling molecules participating in degeneration, such as Tor, JNK, Foxo, and reactive oxygen species, and between altered signaling molecule activity and degeneration. Please see the following publication URLs for more information:

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in Drosophila genetic analysis and cell biology, the ability to think critically and independently, and with a proven track record of productivity as graduate students.  Additionally, biochemical skills such as western blotting and immunohistochemistry are a plus.

The start date is flexible and negotiable but the position is currently open and is expected to be funded until at least January, 2023.

Interested candidates should send their CVs and the names and contact information of three references to: or
