Research Associate, In Vitro Biology

The Role:

We seek a highly skilled, talented and motivated analytical/bioanalytical chemist to assist in performing high-throughput assays for drug product screening and actively contribute to the development of novel analytical assays/tools to support Moderna's mRNA technology platform and pipeline . The individual will join the In Vitro Biology department and will provide analytical/bioanalytical support to many cross-functional platform initiatives. Applicants should be able to function in a highly collaborative and fast-paced environment and should be great team members.

Here's What You'll Do:

Specific projects will involve collaborative interactions in a multidisciplinary group and across a diverse array of analytical areas. The individual will be expected to perform some routine testing to support platform screening, in addition to actively contribute to the development and implementation of novel assays seeking to support both drug substance and drug product testing. This is a basic research position that requires critical thinking, flexibility, multitasking, and the ability to learn new techniques while developing new assays.
  • Provide hands-on support for high-throughput analytical assays (Endotoxin, Fluorescence, Capillary Electrophoresis, HPLC, LC-MS)
  • Assist in the development and implementation of state-of-the-art, innovative mRNA and Lipid Nanoparticle analytical characterization methods.
  • General laboratory assistance including ordering and receiving of lab supplies, preparation of reagents, and lab equipment maintenance.
  • Document, analyze, interpret and present data to internal parties.
  • Accountable for project success and results delivery.
  • Closely collaborate with other members within the In Vitro Biology department and broadly with departments throughout the company.


Here's What You'll Bring to the Table:
  • BS/MS with 0-5 years of industry experience (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Analytical, Bioanalytical)
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills, and the ability to work independently and effectively in a highly dynamic environment
  • Ability to multi-task and meet aggressive timelines and technology development and research goals
  • Familiarity with analytical/bioanalytical techniques to evaluate nucleic acids, lipids, LNPs and Endotoxins (spectroscopy, separation techniques, turbidimetric and kinetic analysis)
  • C andidate will be curious in exploring new path for drug discovery, bold in proposing creative experimental designs and ideas. Will work collaboratively with multifunctional teams and will be relentless in pursuing successful outcomes.
