Job Details

The Laboratory Scientist position supports ongoing clinical trials by planning, organizing and independently conducting experiments using analytical methods to process clinical samples. The Laboratory Scientist thoroughly documents and prepares data for statistical analysis to support scientific protocols and procedures. In addition, the Laboratory Scientist perform assay validation and documentation to support ongoing GLP studies.

The following are functions, duties or tasks that are performed independently by a Laboratory Scientist:
  • Assay design and validation
  • Cell culture, both primary and continuous cell lines
  • Viral/Bacterial Titrations
  • Viral/Bacterial Re-isolations
  • Serum neutralization assays
  • Perform viral neutralization assays
  • PCR, RT-PCR, Q-PCR
  • Hemagglutination Assay
  • Hemagglutination Inhibition Assay
  • Immunofluorescences Assay
  • Growth Kinetics Studies
  • Optimization Studies
  • ELISA
  • Western Blot
  • Calculate dilutions required to hit target titers
  • Embryonated egg work
  • Work independently following instructions or scientific protocols
  • Follow procedures to ensure that GLP studies are in compliance with the appropriate GLP statutes and regulations
  • Document and review GLP laboratory work within FD GO organization to process clinical samples and to execute required analyses within study timelines
  • Maintain infrastructure of laboratory and an organized, clean and safe working environment
  • Schedule and perform maintenance of instruments/equipment
  • Evaluate new laboratory equipment
  • Use proper safety equipment and follow appropriate safety procedures
  • Ensure proper handling and disposal of biohazardous materials and/or hazardous chemicals
  • Prepare SOPs/working procedures
  • Perform data analysis and organization of data for use in reports, etc.
  • Contribute to troubleshooting activities
  • Collaborate with other associates and scientists to facilitate knowledge exchange
  • Work according to external and internal guidelines (e.g. SOP's, GxP, HSE, AW)
  • Meet agreed upon timelines for tasks, assignments, and/or objectives
  • Comply with quality systems and standards (e.g. no critical findings at internal or external audits)

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology or related scientific discipline
  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Elanco does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position.

Additional Skills/Preferences

  • At least 3 years in industry preferred
  • Experience in a laboratory setting
  • Analytical method experience
  • Assay validation experience highly preferred
  • Good scientific or technical knowledge in a specific area, such as culturing methodology
  • Adequate knowledge in scientific/technical areas of collaboration
  • Proficient with laboratory and/or technical tools
  • Background working with Freezerworks software
  • Background conducting GLP studies
