Sr. Manager / Associate Director, Corporate Communications

The Role:
Moderna is seeking an Associate Director of Corporate Communications to help us effectively communicate R&D and corporate milestones and raise awareness of our mRNA platform and pipeline. In this newly created role, this individual will work within the Corporate Affairs team and engage directly with business, R&D and technology leaders throughout the organization. They will also serve as a core member of a cross-functional team responsible for developing materials and messaging to support our scientific and clinical disclosures.

We are seeking a candidate who is ready for the next step in their career and can thrive in a fast-paced environment while also being self-motivated and able to work independently. This individual will be highly curious and energized by translating information about emerging science, medicine and technology into materials that can be understood by a generalist/broad audience. They will not have primary responsibility for media relations activities and relationships, but will work closely with this person as well as agency partners.

They will have excellent written and verbal communications skills and have some experience working with a media relations team. To be successful, they must have strong organizational skills and be comfortable working with corporate and program teams across a complex organization and multiple sites.

This role will be based in Cambridge, MA and will report to the Chief Corporate Affairs Officer.

Here's What You'll Do:
  • Develop timely and accurate communications materials that help a broad audience understand company announcements, pipeline updates and presentations (including press releases, Q&A, blogs and videos for Quarterly calls, data unblindings, scientific publications, regulatory milestones and medical meetings)
  • Be part of a high performing cross-functional team responsible for planning and creating materials for pipeline and corporate disclosures including, Clinical, Research, Legal, IR and Finance
  • Manage editorial and content calendars to ensure smooth timelines for development and approval processes
  • Help maintain the company website and other digital and social media channels
  • Support executive speaking opportunities and presentations as needed
  • Assist with the development of external communications strategies and planning
  • Work with agency partners to develop materials and communications plans
  • Work with key industry, technology and business partners and collaborators in developing opportunities for joint engagement
  • Provide support for employee town halls and other internal programs about our science and pipeline as needed


Here's What You'll Bring to the Table:
  • 7-10 years of public relations experience - either in-house or working for communications agency
  • An understanding of the drug development process is required
  • An ability to write about R&D strategies and milestones concisely and for a general audience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • A deep interest in and curiosity about emerging science, technology and innovation
  • A high level of initiative, a strong work ethic, strong organization skills and the ability to balance multiple assignments
  • Ability to develop trusted peer relationships and engage with senior leaders
  • A collaborative and solution-oriented approach as well as being open-minded to new ideas and approaches. This includes being comfortable challenging the ideas of others and influencing within a cross-functional team.
  • Ability to be flexible and work well under pressure with minimal supervision

  • Bachelor's Degree is required; a science or clinical background is helpful
