The University of Pittsburgh, School of Dental Medicine (UPSDM) invites applications for a tenure stream faculty position in the Department of Oral Biology at the Associate Professor / Professor level. The incumbent will serve as the Chair of the Department of Oral Biology. Successful candidates will hold a PhD, DMD/DDS, MD, or equivalent degree. Applicants with dual degrees are encouraged to apply. Salary will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications, experience, and credentials. The University of Pittsburgh is a top ranked research institution and is currently ranked 5th among U.S. universities in NIH funding. The UPSDM is ranked 4th in NIDCR funding among U.S. dental schools.

The UPSDM is located on the University's main campus in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh, in close proximity to the other five health science schools of the University and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. The Department of Oral Biology currently has 14 basic science teaching and research faculty and approximately 50 research and administrative staff. The majority of the Department's research laboratories are located in a new state-of-the-art building. The Department of Oral Biology houses two research centers, reflecting its major strengths: the Center for Craniofacial and Dental Genetics and the Center for Craniofacial Regeneration. The Department has an active Oral Biology graduate program, which offers PhD and MS degrees.

We are seeking an outstanding individual with excellent leadership skills and an established independent research program. The School of Dental Medicine is situated in a dynamic healthcare delivery and University environment. The area provides a unique and rich ethos for the development of transformative scientific discovery and the translation of intellectual property and clinical solutions. The Chair will have the opportunity to collaborate across multiple platforms and help transform the field. Candidates whose research programs complement existing areas of strength at the University as well as candidates who bring well-developed programs in new research areas are encouraged to apply. The candidate is also expected to participate in the Oral Biology Graduate Program by teaching graduate classes and/or serving as a research mentor to students.
