The University of Ottawa is Canada’s largest bilingual institution of higher learning and research. The Faculty of Medicine — one of Canada’s five most research-intensive faculties, with over CAN$140 million of research funding annually, state of art facilities — seeks a dynamic academic leader as Chair of its Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology (BMI). The Department of BMI is made up of over 100 full-time and cross-appointed scientists with strong ties to several other basic science and clinical departments and hospital-based research institutes. Currently, the Faculty has over 600 students in graduate and postdoctoral studies, distributed across several programs.

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated track record of academic and research excellence with appropriate communication, management and administrative abilities to promote innovation within his or her respective department and throughout the Faculty, including with several research institutes (University of Ottawa Brain and Mind Research Institute, Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario Research Institute, University of Ottawa Institute of Mental Health Research, Élisabeth Bruyère Research Institute, University of Ottawa Heart Institute and the Montfort Hospital Research Institute). Candidates should have a strong record of achievement and innovation in research in one or more relevant disciplines to BMI.

Active knowledge of either English or French is a must and have a stated level of competence (active or passive) in the other official language is preferred. Appointment to the Faculty of Medicine will be made at the appropriate academic rank.
