Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Statistical Genetics and Genomics
A Postdoctoral Research Fellow position is available in the Department of Epidemiology, Human Genetics and Environmental Sciences (EHGES) at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) School of Public Health. We are looking for a highly motivated scientist to join us and solve challenging analytical problems in the field of statistical genetics and genomics, with a focus on complex human diseases.
The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will work on funded research projects with Dr. Han Chen to develop novel statistical methods and computational algorithms to address the big data challenges in the modeling, analysis and interpretation of massive omics data, and implement the new methods and algorithms in user-friendly software programs and cloud-based analysis workflows. Dr. Chen’s group work closely with collaborators in the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) Trans-Omics for Precision Medicine (TOPMed) program, and have developed statistical and computational methods for large-scale sequencing studies.
PhD in epidemiology, statistics, biostatistics, bioinformatics, computer science or a related field.
Strong quantitative background with peer-reviewed publications.
Proficiency in R and Python (or Perl) programming, with working knowledge of C/C++.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Working knowledge of biology, genetics and epidemiology.
Applicants who are enthusiastic in tackling open questions in the field of statistical genetics and genomics should send a brief research statement describing research interests, CV, contact information of 2 references, to Dr. Han Chen (Han.Chen.firstname.lastname@example.org). Start date is flexible and negotiable.
