Georgetown University’s Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center is currently recruiting talented scientists for post-doctoral fellowships in immuno-oncology in the laboratory of Dr. Samir N. Khleif.  The major focus of the lab is the basic and translational research that is dedicated to understanding the cellular/molecular mechanisms underlying immune cell activation, localization and immunosuppression within the tumor microenvironment. Another major focus of the lab is to decipher the mechanisms leading to resistance to cancer immunotherapy.  Candidates with an extensive background in tumor immunology, cellular and molecular immunology, and working with primary human tumor specimens and mouse models of cancer are preferred. Successful post-doctoral research would be expected to result in high profile publication and presentation opportunities and help fulfill Georgetown’s mission to develop cutting-edge cancer treatments of tomorrow.

Job description and expectations: Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Immunology or a closely related field. The duties of this position will involve utilizing in vivo mouse tumor models to understand mechanisms of immunotherapy resistance.  Experience in animal handling, drug administration, and ex vivo analyses related to immune endpoints such as complex multispectral flow cytometry, ELISPOT, cytometric bead array, TCR immune-sequencing, and cell-based bioassays is highly desired.  The ideal candidate will also have in-depth and hands-on expertise in analysis of human primary tumors, preferably with experience in tumor dissociation, flow cytometry and single cell RNA sequencing.  Familiarity with handling large data sets to investigate human immune pathways deregulated in cancer and immunotherapy-resistant tumors is preferred. The candidate must be proficient in oral and written English, and able to work independently and collaboratively in a matrixed environment to design, execute, interpret and communicate immunotherapy studies.

About the Lab: The Khleif Laboratory offers a highly competitive, stimulating and dynamic working environment within an exceptional scientific setting in an international, young, enthusiastic, motivated team. The laboratory is working on high-impact projects and conducts research that can be translated into the clinical practice. The laboratory is part of the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center (LCCC), a multidisciplinary research center focusing on cancer, genetics, metabolism and immune-therapy. LCCC offers many Core facilities including: Imaging, Molecular Biology, Metabolomics, Histology and mouse facility, etc. Technical support is granted within the lab.
