Department of Basic Science & Craniofacial Biology

Position Summary: Two post-doctoral positions are available immediately in the Department of Basic Science & Craniofacial Biology at NYU College of Dentistry to understand the role of endocrine factors in the pathogenesis of chronic disease conditions such as chronic kidney disease, heart disease, and obesity. Highly motivated, hardworking recent Ph.D. and/or M.D./Ph.D. graduates are encouraged to apply. Successful candidates will direct studies using in vivo and in vitro approaches to study the mechanisms controlling fat metabolism, adipogenesis, and energy homeostasis (Project 1), and iron homeostasis in anemia of inflammation (Project 2).
Basic Qualifications: Candidates should have strong organizational skills, effective written and oral communication skills using the English language, and be able to provide evidence of research productivity. The applicants should have the ability to work independently, design and conduct experiments, and in collaborative research projects as part of the research team. Prior experience and willingness to work with mouse models is necessary.
Duties and responsibilities: Expertise in the following is an absolute requirement
- characterization of transgenic and knockout mouse models
- molecular and cell biology techniques (qPCR, Western Blot, immunohistochemistry)
- blood and tissue sample collection and analysis
- in vitro culture of mammalian cells (e.g. bone marrow cells, hepatocytes,, adipocytes, cardiomyocytes)
- histology
Experience with lipid metabolism, adipocyte and mitochondrial biology, or iron homeostasis, is highly desirable.
