The Department of Physiology & Biophysics at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine seeks one highly motivated postdoctoral scholar to conduct research in the laboratory of Dr. Tingwei Mu ( Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine ranks #25 according to the newest US News and World Report (

The candidate is expected to study the protein quality control machinery of neurotransmitter-gated ion channels using cellular neuroscience techniques and to evaluate their pharmacology using patch-clamping electrophysiology. The candidate is also expected to use small molecule proteostasis regulators to correct the misfolding of pathogenic ion channels, as a therapeutic strategy for the treatment of related neurological diseases. The posted position will be supported by our newly funded NIH RO1 grant. The successful candidates will be offered competitive salary and benefits packages, as well as considerable professional development opportunities. The applicant must have a PhD and/or MD degree in biophysics, neuroscience, cell biology, pharmacology, or related field. Previous experience with endoplasmic reticulum biology, fluorescence, or neuroreceptors-related research is desired, but not required.

The Mu lab focuses on proteostasis maintenance of ion channels in the central nervous system. Ion channel protein folding and misfolding is an emerging field in the medical science field. We use a combination of neuroscience, electrophysiology, cell biology, and biophysics approaches to determine how the proteostasis network orchestrates the folding, degradation, assembly, trafficking and function of neuroreceptors.

Interested individuals should send a cover letter, CV, and the names/phone numbers of three people who could provide letters of reference by email to Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
