The Department of Mechanical Engineering at UCL has an outstanding international reputation in research on energy and the environment, marine engineering and naval architecture and engineering for medical applications, with strong research collaborations with industry and universities in the UK, America, Asia and the Far East and has excellent research and teaching facilities. The position also involves direct usage of the facilities in the London Centre for Nanotechnology (LCN). 

Main duties and responsibilities:

The candidate will directly engage in an exciting and adventurous research project focusing on nanoengineered surfaces for flow condensation applications. The work is a part of a prestigious ERC grant. Salient facets of the work include, designing new experiments to test flow condensation on nanoengineered surfaces. Fundamental knowledge of thermofluid sciences, phase change phenomena and colloidal physics will be desirable. Some of the research tools (and experimental setups) will need to be developed during the project. The research will have a joint emphasis on flow condensation and advanced materials. Expertise in small (micro/nanoscale) liquid cooling technologies and colloidal physics is also desirable though not required. The position may offer opportunities to engage in teaching activities in UCL Mechanical Engineering and also to engage with and mentor PhD students. The post will also offer an opportunity to collaborate with scientists from our industrial partners.

This position is available for 2 year in the first instance.
