The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Department of Anatomy, Physiology, and Genetics (APG) invites highly qualified candidates to apply for the position of Associate Professor in the Educator Track (tenure ineligible). The Department of Anatomy, Physiology, and Genetics conducts research and educates medical and graduate students in the topics of neuroscience, molecular and cell biology, organ physiology and genetics with an emphasis on issues that are relevant to needs and requirements of the Department of Defense.

Duties: The incumbent will serve as an Associate Professor in the Department of Anatomy, Physiology and Genetics and will be responsible for teaching, research and administrative assignments.

He/she will effectively teach medical and graduate students in a module structured, collaborative curriculum setting; prepare materials for presentation and presents lectures in the area of Cell Biology, Histology, Physiology, Embryology, Neuroanatomy and Gross Anatomy. The incumbent will oversee medical students, interns, residents, and postdoctoral graduate assistants at the tutorial level in both classroom and laboratory exercises related to the curriculum, serves as research advisor to graduate students in field of expertise, assists in planning programs, setting objectives, evaluating programs, etc. He/she will be responsible for designing curriculum and performing education and teaching activities for APG courses, teaching new research techniques, use of appropriate instruments and equipment, and statistical and analytical procedures.

Additionally, the incumbent will serve as a resource for faculty development in the field of biomedical education. He/she will participate in academic investigational, research and development projects related to the evaluation of data and publication associated with the scholarship of education; writes and edits for publication, texts, articles, monographs and other materials for use in the study and for research purposes relevant to health professional education; and actively participates in daily research work at bench level.

Qualifications and Requirements: The incumbent must bring to this position a minimum of a Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent degree in biological or anatomical sciences or a related field.

Position requires: substantial experience in medical school teaching, educational administration, personnel management, research and development; expertise and experience as reflected by a significant number of scientific publications in critically reviewed scientific journals as appropriate to his/her research, and possess active membership in scholarly societies appropriate to the Department of Anatomy, Physiology and Genetics. The successful candidate must be academically qualified for a faculty appointment as the Associate Professor level in accordance with USUHS academic policies.

The following experience and/or knowledge are highly desirable: Experience in the use of medical educational applications and electronic data processing; general knowledge of biomedical sciences and the use of new technologies such as print, video, computer programs, and internet-linked materials, etc.

Relocation expenses i.e. PCS or relocation incentives as described on 5 U.S.C 5733 may be authorized in accordance with applicable travel regulations, command policy and available command funding.
