At Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, home to three Nobel laureates, interdisciplinary teams of world-renowned scientists seek new and innovative ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening diseases. Fred Hutch’s pioneering work in bone marrow transplantation led to the development of immunotherapy, which harnesses the power of the immune system to treat cancer. An independent, nonprofit research institute based in Seattle, Fred Hutch houses the nation’s first and largest cancer prevention research program, as well as the clinical coordinating center of the Women’s Health Initiative and the international headquarters of the HIV Vaccine Trials Network. The Tapscott Lab has an opening for a postdoctoral research associate who has interest and expertise in gene transcription in a chromatin context in normal development and disease. The candidate will complement and contribute to the active research program, which includes studies of the molecular mechanisms of cell specification and differentiation in normal development and disease. Recent work has focused on DUX4 and related factors and their role in regulating early pluripotent stem cell specification, development, and disease, including cancer and muscular dystrophy. In addition, the lab studies the molecular and genomic regulation of cell specification using myogenesis and neurogenesis as model systems.
