A Postdoctoral Research Fellow position is available for a qualified scientist to join the laboratory of Dr. Mark Headley in the Program in Immunology at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. The goal of the Headley Lab is to understand how dynamic interactions at the level of individual cells influence disease. The current focus is on understanding how immune cells participate in the process of lung metastasis of cancer. We are using cutting edge methods such as intravital lung microscopy and single cell RNAseq to understand the dynamic interactions in vivo that underlay this complex biology.
Responsibilities
The post-doctoral research fellow will participate in the development and elaboration of a project studying pulmonary metastasis of cancer such as breast cancer or melanoma as well as primary lung cancer. The primary focus of these studies will be on the role of the immune system in lung metastasis.
The successful candidate will be expected to lead projects and perform independent experiments including management of murine colonies while managing and taking part in collaborative research projects and participating in a group lab environment. There will be opportunities to mentor and manage research technicians, graduate students and undergraduate interns. The fellow will be expected to present regularly at lab meetings and local research forums.
Qualifications
The successful applicant must have a PhD in a biological science with demonstrated expertise in immunology or cancer biology. The fellow must be highly motivated with a track record of productive research, exemplified by at least one first author publication published or ready to submit to a reputable peer-reviewed journal as well as presentations at scientific conferences and symposia. Experience working with murine models and flow cytometry is required.
Experience with lung biology, metastasis, survival surgery, multicolor flow cytometry, microscopy (particularly two-photon) and programming/image analysis including the IMARIS software package are a strong plus.
