THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH DAKOTA

COMPUTATIONAL RESEARCH INITIATIVE

Faculty Cluster Recruitment

The University of North Dakota (UND), the state’s flagship research university, is launching the President’s Computational Research Initiative (PCRI), a major investment aimed at driving research success across the university, propelling UND to Carnegie R1 status and further advancing the positive impact the university and its industry partners have on North Dakota, the country, and the world. (UND.edu/research)

Following a multi-million dollar upgrade of its computational infrastructure, UND is now recruiting a cluster of senior and early career research-intensive computational faculty who will help significantly enhance research across the university, particularly in UND’s research Grand Challenges – energy, health, rural communities and Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). The Faculty Cluster

In addition to robust computational infrastructure and financial investment, cutting edge research in UND’s Grand Challenges requires talented faculty. For this reason the institution is striving to recruit a unified and highly collaborative group of research-intensive faculty who will lead computational research at UND, and drive research success across the university. UND anticipates that members of the cluster will individually and collectively work with colleagues across the university in order to help realize a significant enhancement in activity in all areas of research, but particularly in the Grand Challenges. With the addition of computational capabilities in Big Data, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Artificial Intelligence and related fields, these areas are poised for significant growth.

At the senior faculty level, a long and distinguished record of funded research is necessary, while junior faculty in the cluster will have demonstrated promise for significant research funding. Recognizing the critical importance of this research to UND and the high expectations for research performance, PCRI faculty will receive highly competitive compensation and start-up resources with limited teaching and service responsibilities.

UND’S Global Leadership

The faculty cluster, housed in the UND College of Engineering and Mines, will pursue Big Data research in support of all our Grand Challenges and comprise a significant focus for the university’s research. As a result of UND’s acclaimed global leadership, and private sector partnerships in UAS, autonomous systems, energy and rural health, computational researchers will find many collaborative opportunities and will drive even greater success in these areas.
