ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF ANIMAL PHYSIOLOGY


The State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY-ESF) invites applications for Assistant Professor of Animal Physiology (tenure track). We seek a highly motivated scientist dedicated to advancing research in animal physiology and related disciplines, and training the next generation of biologists. We are particularly interested in candidates with a commitment to diversity and inclusiveness.


Responsibilities: Establish an extramurally supported research program that involves training undergraduates, graduate students, and post-docs focused on physiology of animals in terrestrial, freshwater or marine systems. Teaching will include an undergraduate course in Animal Physiology (including weekly laboratory exercises) and a graduate/advanced undergraduate level course in Physiological Ecology, Animal Behavior, Conservation Physiology, or related subjects, plus a field course or graduate seminars in their area of specialty. Other responsibilities include mentoring of undergraduates in one or more of the seven undergraduate majors in the Department of Environmental and Forest Biology.


Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. degree in Animal Physiology or related field
  • Demonstrated research emphasis on animal physiology and its applications
  • Evidence of creativity, quality and productivity in research


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Evidence of ability to develop an active, extramurally-funded research program
  • Demonstrated excellence and innovation in teaching and mentoring at both the undergraduate and graduate levels


The Department, College and Broader Community: The Animal Physiologist position will be housed within the Department of Environmental Biology and Forestry at SUNY-ESF (http://www.esf.edu/efb/), which is also home to the historic Roosevelt Wild Life Station (http://www.esf.edu/rwls/), one of several research institutes and centers focused on applied conservation at the College (see www.esf.edu/research/ric.htm).
