Postdoctoral Positions in Human Genetics and Human Genetic Mechanisms
Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine
Center for Genetic Medicine

A postdoctoral position is available for studying genes and mechanisms underlying myopathies affecting heart and/or skeletal muscle in the laboratory of Dr. Elizabeth McNally.  The laboratory is a highly collaborative environment that integrates computational assessment/bioinformatics to identify rare genetic variation and study genetic modifiers of single gene disorders.  Investigation extends to include functional analysis of genetic variation, employing genetic animal models, Drosophila, and/or induced pluripotent stem cells.  Molecular tools include antisense, gene editing, transgenesis and other tools.  The laboratory is supported by the National Institutes of Health and foundations, and there are opportunities for T32 support for candidates who are US citizens or permanent residents.
Specific areas of research include:
Analyzing whole genome sequencing for novel and modifier genetic variants.
Identifying modifier loci using quantitative trait mapping in mouse models.
Using genetic modifier data to develop new approaches to treat rare genetic diseases that affect heart and muscle.
Studying mechanism of sarcolemmal stability and sarcolemmal membrane repair.

Applicants should have a PhD and preferably be less than 3 years from their PhD.  Applicants with bioinformatics experience are encouraged.   The applicant should have a track record of first author publications and be able to design and conduct experiments, coordinate multiple projects, and work within a collaborative team.

To apply, please submit a copy of your CV or NIH Biosketch along with the names and contact information of three references to cgm@northwestern.edu.  Please include “Postdoctoral Positions in Human Genetics and Human Genetic Mechanisms” in the subject field of the email.
