About City of Hope

City of Hope, an innovative biomedical research, treatment and educational institution with over 6,000 employees, is dedicated to the prevention and cure of cancer and other life-threatening diseases and guided by a compassionate, patient-centered philosophy.

Founded in 1913 and headquartered in Duarte, California, City of Hope is a remarkable non-profit institution, where compassion and advanced care go hand-in-hand with excellence in clinical and scientific research. City of Hope is a National Cancer Institute designated Comprehensive Cancer Center and a founding member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, an alliance of the nation's leading cancer centers that develops and institutes standards of care for cancer treatment.

Position Summary

APostdoctoral Fellow positionis available in the laboratory of Dr. Ke Ma, Associate Professor, at the Diabetes and Metabolism Research Institute within Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope. The Ma lab applies state-of-the-art circadian biology, molecular and cellular biology approaches to diabetes and obesity research, and we have established a unique program in deciphering the signaling mechanisms underlying circadian clock control in metabolic tissue development, growth and functional capacity.

We are looking for ahighly motivated postdoctoral fellow with strong enthusiasm for metabolic disease or stem cell research to discover novel epigenetic mechanisms mediating circadian clock functions in adipose depots and skeletal muscle. Ultimately, our goal is to unravel circadian etiologies underlying the current epidemics of metabolic diseases for targeted therapeutic interventions. Utilizing biochemical and molecular biology approaches combined with animal physiology in genetic mouse models, the specific research directions in Ma Lab will explore, 1) epigenetic networks mediating clock nutrient-sensing function in adipose tissue and skeletal muscle; 2) circadian clock regulation of stem cell behavior in skeletal muscle development, growth, and regeneration; and 3) novel roles of circadian regulators in cancer development and metabolism.

The candidate should be self-motivated, with a proven track record of productivity and strong interest in metabolic disease, epigenetics or stem cell research.
