Emergent Infectious Agents at the Interface of Food & the Environment tenure-track Asst/Assoc Prof.

Job Requirements

The University of Minnesota, College of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences seeks to hire a tenure-track Assistant/Associate/Full Professor. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a robust research program aimed at microbiological, epidemiological, and/or environmental investigations related to pre-harvest food safety in food producing animals. This position is supported by the Food Venture initiative.

The Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences houses research clusters in microbiomes and antimicrobial drug resistance; host-pathogen interactions; chronic disease biology; and animal genomics. In addition to the dynamic research environment, the faculty hire will have access to state-of-the-art facilities, including small and large animal BSL2 and BSL3 facilities. This particular faculty hire will develop a research program geared toward enhancing outbreak investigative capacities and outbreak investigation tools. Preference will be given to candidates working to provide fundamental knowledge of biological contaminants of food and feed, with particular emphasis on those that can apply knowledge towards mitigation strategies against foodborne pathogens such as Salmonella, E. coli or Campylobacter to improve food safety for humans and animals.  It is anticipated that the successful candidate will devote 70% effort to research and 30% effort to teaching and outreach activities, and that the faculty member will pursue federally funded grant applications with other food safety colleagues on campus.  

The minimum qualifications for this position are a Ph.D. degree, evidence of successful grantsmanship and collaboration, and a record of primary research publications in highly-ranked scientific journals. Candidates with a D.V.M. degree from a veterinary medical institution are preferred. The candidate must be eligible to apply for research funds from the National Institutes of Health, the United States Department of Agriculture and other U.S. federal funding agencies to support a research program of high national and international distinction.  Members of underrepresented minorities and women are strongly encouraged to apply.
