As part of our new and expanding Texas Epilepsy Neurotechnologies and Neuroinformatics Institute (TENN), at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth – https://www.uth.edu), we invite applications for an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) position in Neuroengineering.

This position is part of a combined initiative between UTHealth and Rice University focused on the development of platform technologies for neuromonitoring and neuromodulation in humans. We are looking for candidates interested in translating the recent developments in materials science and miniaturization to human use for capturing and recording neural data as well as investigating novel ways to analyze and interpret these data.

Demonstrable interest in epilepsy or cognitive processes (e.g., language) using systems-level approaches for recording and or modulation, is preferred, but is not critical.

The successful candidate will hold primary appointment in the Department of Neurosurgery (https://med.uth.edu/neurosurgery), and a joint appointment at Rice University as part of their new neuroengineering initiative – NeuroX (http://neuroscience.rice.edu/).

Additional collaborative arrangements with other institutions at the Texas Medical Center (TMC), as well as nationally, will be encouraged.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will be expected to create and sustain an independent research program, including planning, supervising and directing engineering-based research. The candidate will have the opportunity to train and supervise undergraduate, graduate and MD/PhD students at UTHealth and/or Rice University.

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must possess a doctoral degree in Engineering or a related field (post-doctoral experience preferred). A record of verifiable and published research, the potential to obtain extramural, peer-reviewed funding, and excellent teamwork and communication skills are also required.
