Research Specialist in the Pharmacoanalytical Shared Resource (PhASR) will apply knowledge of analytical chemistry to drive project design and implementation; design and conduct in vitro and in vivo experiments to quantitatively characterize mechanisms of absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion for novel drugs or drug candidates; develop and test experimental designs, sampling techniques, and analytical methods to make recommendations for implementation; conduct animal pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic studies; prepare biological tissues for experimental studies; develop and validate analytical assays using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry or other appropriate analytical platforms; develops and validates quantitative or qualitative methods using LC, LC/MS, UV, fluorescence, ELISA, or other techniques; researches published studies and synthesizes new knowledge and information into PhASR projects; participates in developing goals related to study; creates and manages databases of information generated from method development and sample analysis and prepares it for analysis; apply pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic concepts and statistics to analyze, model and interpret the resulting data; consult directly with PhASR collaborators to help guide decision-making with their diverse research projects and prepare comprehensive reports, manuscripts, and grant proposals to governmental and private agencies; coordinates work; train and supervise other staff in the use of developed protocols, equipment and laboratory procedures; supports development of SOPs and maintains laboratory equipment by performing routine maintenance and scheduling contracted maintenance services when necessary; maintains safety standards and compliance; serves as lab manager for safety inspections; participates in conferences related to the progress of studies and presents experimental data at local and national meetings.

Education/Experience

A Masters degree in an appropriate biological/health science or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Extensive experience in a professional area (research, development, evaluation, instrumentation), considerable experience in a R & D setting (i.e., planning and conducting R & D projects/programs in terms of technical and managerial functions), experience in state-of-the-art development in area of specialization is required. Doctoral degree is preferred. Requires successful completion of a background check; selected candidate may be asked to complete a pre-employment physical including a drug screen.
