Position Summary:

Penn State Children’s Hospital is recruiting an outstanding physician-scientist for a faculty position in the newly endowed Epigenetics and Gene Regulation Research Program in Pediatric Oncology within the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. This position is supported by a $10M endowment from the Four Diamonds Fund of the PSU College of Medicine, part of >$70M endowments supporting the Four Diamonds Pediatric Cancer Research Center. This Program is part of an interdepartmental genetics initiative by the institution. The mission of the Pediatric Oncology Epigenetics and Gene Regulation Research Program is to study epigenetics, gene regulation, genome function, RNA biology, bioinformatics, and/or computational biology to better understand tumor development and to utilize this knowledge to develop innovative epigenetic and genetic-based therapies for pediatric malignancies. A wide range of model systems and experimental approaches are of interest and strong collaborations between basic and clinical research, and clinical research trials are encouraged.

Outstanding candidates will also be considered for the position of Associate Director, Four Diamonds Pediatric Cancer Research Center. This research center is within the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology in the Department of Pediatrics at the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine. There is currently more than $70M of existing research endowments designated for endowed chairs and research programs in Experimental Therapeutics, Molecular Oncology, and Epigenetic and Gene Regulation Research. All laboratory leaders are NIH-funded, and there is significant participation in Phase I and II trials through membership in national consortia. There is a plan for significant expansion of research space and anticipation of continued center growth with philanthropic funds to build new programs. The goal of this position will be to conceptualize and develop new research programs in pediatric oncology which synergize with current and newly hired faculty in both clinical and laboratory-based research, in consultation with the Division Chief, who is also the Four Diamonds Pediatric Cancer Research Center Director.

Successful applicants will have an M.D./Ph.D. or M.D. degree with an established track record in cancer research and demonstrated ability to obtain extramural funding (R01-type award).  Rank is at the Associate to Full Professor level commensurate with the applicant’s experience and accomplishments.

In concert with the Chief of the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, the search process is being led by Zack Reynolds, Managing Director of Diversified Search.  Nominations and expressions of interest should be directed to Zack at 773-454-7961, or by email at: PSHChildrens@divsearch.com
