Postdoctoral Fellow (Immunology/Structural Biology/Computational Design)

Would you like to be part of the development and design of next-generation protein therapeutics and vaccines? By combining state-of-the art technologies in computational protein design with directed evolution methodologies, we are bringing a new perspective to difficult problems. We now have an array of computational, structural design, and protein engineering tools available, enabling us to revisit old paradigms and tackle viruses from new and promising angles while also developing new technologies concerning immunogenicity (relevant to both industry and academia). The Strauch Lab (https://www.strauchlab.com) at the University of Georgia (UGA) is a young lab bringing together protein design and computational biology with microbiology and immunology. We are a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary environment.

Responsibilities

The Strauch Lab is seeking an outstanding postdoctoral fellow with knowledge in immunology and ideally also structural biology to work on projects that aim to:

- design immunogenicity of novel immunogens and therapeutics against the influenza virus using computational structural design;

- perform in vitro immunogenicity screens;

- develop high-throughput screens for initial immunogenicity testing; and
- characterize biochemical and biophysical properties of antigens and therapeutics.

The candidate will acquire additional knowledge and training while being involved in various aspects of research and development, including structure-based immunogen design and surface display technologies such as yeast or phage display.

Qualifications and Requirements

PhD in immunology, structural biology, microbiology, molecular biology, virology, bioengineering, biochemistry or a related field is required. Experience with recombinant protein expression in mammalian cells, prokaryotes and/or insect cells, and protein purification, as well as immunoassays (ELISA, ELISPOT), T-cell activation assay and MHC binding assays is a must. Programming experience would be helpful but is not required.

About UGA

UGA is a global and culturally diverse university committed to providing an inclusive, equitable, and diverse environment for both learning and employment. We know that diversity in experience and perspective is vital to advancing innovation, critical thinking, solving complex problems, and building an inclusive academic community. Located 65 miles east of Atlanta, Athens has a rich culture and thriving music scene, which ranked the city on our Top 10 Best Music Scenes list. This college town also has year-round recreation activities, restaurants and more than 65 downtown shops, which help support the local small-business economy.

Interested candidates should submit a single pdf file containing (1) a cover letter describing their research experience and interests, scientific achievements, and career goals, (2) a CV, (3) sample publications, and (4) a list of 2-3 references (with email addresses).
