The Indiana University School of Medicine has an opening for a Postdoctoral Appointee in the area of metabolomics data integration.  In collaboration with the visual analytics company Kitware Inc. (Clifton Park, NY), Dr. Thomas O’Connell (Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery) and Dr. Jun Wan (Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics, Director of Collaborative Core for Cancer Bioinformatics) are looking for a Ph.D. with expertise in computational biology and/or biostatistics. 

This Postdoctoral Appointee will have a unique opportunity to work with multi-disciplinary teams of scientists including clinical, basic and computational sciences.  The project goal is to provide an optimized computational pipeline for metabolomics data to aid in the development of diagnostic and prognostic biomarker panels as well as identify critical metabolic alterations to understand the causes and consequences of disease states. We will develop an open scalable software platform for metabolomics data integration, including, new and innovative methods to integrate diverse data types from a range of analytical platforms along with advanced data mining and development of visual analytic tools. 

The Indiana University School of Medicine is the largest medical school in the United States.  It is comprised of eight basic science departments and 18 clinical science departments.  IU School of Medicine physicians and scientists were awarded more than $355 million in research grants in fiscal year 2018 to study the development of new therapeutics and how to improve the delivery of health care.   Funding from the National Institutes of Health totaled $135 million in fiscal year 2017 advancing IU into the top 33 NIH-funded medical schools in the nation. 

The ideal candidate should have experience in software development in the life sciences and be proficient in programming languages including R and Python. This position is funded by a grant from the National Institutes of Health, National Cancer Institute.
