Curriculum Officer at the Max Planck School of Cognition (MPS-Cog)

Contract: full-time employment for 2 years, with the possibility of extension; remuneration in accordance with the German public service pay scale

Ideal start date: March 2019

We invite applicants for a full-time position as Curriculum Officer of the newly founded Max Planck School of Cognition. The successful applicant will be based in Leipzig or Berlin (Germany).

The Max Planck School of Cognition (MPS-Cog), one of the three pioneering national Max Planck Schools, is a joint initiative of the Max Planck Society, German universities, and German research organizations and is additionally funded by the German ministry of research (BMBF). MPS-Cog will explore new paths in postgraduate education in Germany by linking the dispersed excellence of German researchers in the field of cognition, thus attracting top international graduates to its world-class PhD programme. A unique network of approximately 50 outstanding scientists forms the basis for a career- oriented education. Responsibilities

The successful applicant will:

  • Advise and guide students on academic curriculum matters
  • Assist students during the entire doctoral programme with administrative matters (e. g. enrolment at partneruniversities)
  • Coordinate laboratory rotations for first-yearstudents
  • Monitor students’ progress during the PhD programme and oversee regular evaluations
  • Create and maintain a database for students’records
  • Update content on the website of the doctoralprogramme
  • Provide support with the preparation of reports for the evaluation phases ofMPS-Cog

 

Qualifications and Prerequisites

  • Master’s degree (ideally also a PhD) in areas related toCognition
  • Experience in admissions or other university student affairs setting, preferably with international doctoralstudents
  • Knowledge and understanding of the German higher educationsystem
  • Exceptional organizational skills with a proven capacity to manage multipletasks
  • Accuracy and attention todetail
  • Excellent command of English and good command ofGerman
  • Comfortable working in a multiculturalenvironment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills andflexibility
