Post-Doctoral Research Position in the Metabolic Engineering and Biomanufacturing Laboratory directed by Professor Ramon Gonzalez at the University of South Florida

Multiple post-doctoral research positions are available in the Metabolic Engineering and Biomanufacturing Laboratory directed by Professor Ramon Gonzalez. Our research program seeks to harness the full potential of biology for biomanufacturing by designing and implementing transformational metabolic engineering and synthetic biology approaches to engineer microbial metabolism. Combined with advances in our fundamental knowledge of cellular metabolism, these approaches exploit the power and diversity of biology for the development of novel technologies across a range of applications. With a focus on the biomanufacturing of small organic molecules, we have engineered cellular metabolism for the production of fuel, chemical, and pharmaceutical compounds from cost-effective and sustainable feedstocks.

We are seeking a self-motivated, detail-oriented researcher able to excel in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. A high level of independence and the ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize deadlines, and meet target-oriented, quantitative milestones are expected. Applicants should have an interest and research expertise in metabolic engineering and synthetic biology.

The successful candidate(s) will lead experimental aspects of projects related to metabolic engineering and enzyme engineering/characterization for the development of microbial biocatalysts for the conversion of one-carbon substrates to organic molecules. Researchers will be involved in collaborative projects aimed at the conversion of syngas and carbon dioxide through novel bioconversion approaches The individuals will be involved in designing and modeling novel metabolic pathways, developing and characterizing proteins for essential biochemical reactions steps and pathways, along with the design, construction, and characterization of related recombinant microorganisms, and the analysis of associated metabolic products. Applicants should have research experience in:

• Design and engineering of microorganisms (bacteria and/or yeast) for the production of organic molecules with applications in chemical and/or pharmaceutical production

• Protein engineering and characterization of enzymes for novel function

• Genetic manipulation, handling, maintenance, growth, and analysis of microorganisms

• Analysis of associated metabolic products from in vitro/in vivo biochemical characterization

This is a full-time (temporary) position(s) that may be renewed annually depending on satisfactory performance and funding availability up to a maximum of three years. Health insurance benefits will be offered through the USF postdoctoral scholar health insurance program.

Applicants must submit their application electronically with supporting documentation as one PDF file directly online at: https://www.usf.edu/work-at-usf/careers/index.aspx (Search Job Opening ID#18885). Application should include the candidates CV, names of at least 3 references, and a brief description of their interest and research experience related to the available positions.
